Best SEO Tools for Agencies in 2026: The Stack

By Fenn8 min readAgenciesTools

Agencies rarely need one SEO tool; they need one per job. As of October 2026: an all-in-one suite for research, rank tracking and audits (SE Ranking from $129 a month for 10 projects, Semrush from $139, Ahrefs from $129, Moz Pro from $99), a desktop crawler for deep audits (Screaming Frog at $279 a year, Sitebulb from $18 a month), a client reporting layer (AgencyAnalytics at $25 per client a month), a local tool for multi-location clients (BrightLocal from $31 a month per location), and something that checks AI answers, which the suites now partly cover. Seats and client count, not the headline price, decide what each one really costs.

Best SEO Tools for Agencies: The Stack

Prices and limits below were checked on each vendor's own pricing and help pages on 4 October 2026. They are US-dollar list prices before tax and 'as of October 2026'. Agencies should read two lines on every pricing page before the headline: what an extra user costs, and how many client projects the plan holds.

The five jobs in an agency SEO stack

  1. Research and tracking: keywords, competitors, backlinks, rank tracking. This is what the all-in-one suites sell.
  2. Technical audits: crawling a client site end to end. Suites include a cloud crawler; a desktop crawler goes deeper.
  3. Client reporting: branded, scheduled reports that pull Search Console, GA4 and the suite's data.
  4. Local: map rankings, Google Business Profile, reviews and listings for clients with physical locations.
  5. AI answers: whether ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI features name the client. The suites below now include some of it.

All-in-one suites

SE Ranking: most projects per dollar

Core is $129 a month ($103.20 billed annually) with 10 projects, 2,000 keywords and 100 AI prompts tracked daily, 250,000 audit pages a month, API credits and MCP access; Growth is $279 ($223.20) with 30 projects, 5,000 keywords, 250 prompts and three manager seats. Extra seats start at $16. The Agency Pack ($69 a month, annual billing only) adds white-label for the platform and reports, unlimited scheduled reports and an embeddable lead generator. 14-day trial, no card. Best for: small and mid-size agencies that want many client projects in one login. Limit: white-label needs the Agency Pack, which is sold with annual billing only, so compare its keyword and backlink coverage on your own clients during the trial.

Semrush: the broadest toolkit

The SEO plan is $139 a month ($117.33 annually) for 5 websites and 500 daily-tracked keywords. Semrush One plans bundle the SEO and AI Visibility toolkits: Starter $199 (5 websites, 50 AI prompts), Pro+ $299 (15 websites, 1,500 keywords, 100 prompts) and Advanced $549 (40 websites, 5,000 keywords, 200 prompts, API data integration). Extra users start at $45 a month. Reports cost extra per report: Base $10 a month, Pro (white-label, custom domain) $20. Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush on 28 April 2026. 7-day trial, with exports disabled during it. Best for: agencies that sell SEO, content and paid search together. Limit: seats and per-report fees add up quickly.

Ahrefs: link data and market-wide AI research

Lite is $129 a month (5 projects, 750 tracked keywords, 1 user), Standard $249 (20 projects, 2,000 keywords), Advanced $449 (50 projects, 5,000 keywords, Looker Studio integration and an agency directory listing) and Enterprise $1,499 with an annual commitment. Extra users are $40 to $100 a month depending on plan. Every plan includes API and MCP access, and Lite to Advanced include 5 to 20 daily AI prompts; Brand Radar for market-wide AI visibility starts at $199 a month. Ahrefs Free (formerly Ahrefs Webmaster Tools) covers verified sites at no cost. No free trial and, in Ahrefs' words, no discounts. Best for: link-heavy work and competitive research. Limit: rank tracking updates weekly, and Ahrefs' own pages do not mention white-label reports.

Moz Pro: lower entry, AI visibility included

Standard is $99 a month ($79 a month for the first year billed yearly) with 1 user, 3 tracked sites and 300 keywords; Medium $179 (2 users, 10 sites, 1,500 keywords); Large $299 (3 users, 25 sites, 3,000 keywords). Every plan includes AI visibility dashboards with 150 to 600 tracked prompts across GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, updated weekly. Branded reports are not included on Standard. A free trial is offered on Medium. Best for: small agencies starting out. Limit: Moz's yearly prices were labelled as first-year billing during a promotion when we checked, so confirm the renewal price.

Crawlers for deep technical audits

Screaming Frog SEO Spider is free up to 500 URLs; a licence is $279 per user a year (less from 5 licences) and removes the limit, subject to your machine's memory, and adds scheduling, JavaScript rendering, GA and Search Console integrations and a Looker Studio crawl report. Sitebulb's desktop Lite is $18 a month (10,000 URLs per audit) and Pro $42 a month per user (500,000 URLs, scheduled audits, customised PDF reports); its cloud plans start at $125 a month. Both have a place even if you own a suite: suite crawlers cap pages per audit (Semrush at 20,000 below Advanced), while a desktop crawler is limited mainly by your machine.

Client reporting and local

AgencyAnalytics is the per-client option: $25 per client a month ($20 billed annually) with unlimited staff and client users, 85+ integrations, a white-labelled client portal, custom domain and email, API and MCP access, and add-ons for rank tracking and AI tracking. For alternatives priced by dashboard, source or report, see our AgencyAnalytics alternatives page. For clients with physical locations, BrightLocal ($31 a month per location billed annually, 14-day trial) adds local rank tracking, a geo-grid, citation monitoring, a profile audit and a local AI visibility tracker; it works in the USA, UK, Canada and Australia.

AI-answer visibility

The suites now include prompt tracking: SE Ranking 100 prompts on Core, Semrush 50 on Starter, Ahrefs 5 on Lite, Moz 150 on Standard, each on its own list of assistants and refresh schedule. Check that the assistants your clients' buyers use are on the list; Claude and Grok are missing from most of them.

Fenn is built for this job rather than for keyword research. It asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok the questions a client's customers ask, shows how often each names the client and who it names instead, and turns gaps into site fixes with a ready prompt and drafts of the missing pages, which the agency approves and publishes. The Agency plan is $199 a month for up to 25 websites, with a site switcher, teammates by invite and an activity log. It does not do keyword research, rank tracking or white-label reports, and checks run when you start them rather than on a schedule. Plans are set up after a demo.

Three starter stacks

AgencyStackMonthly list cost, roughly
Freelancer, 3 to 5 clientsMoz Pro Standard or SE Ranking Core, Screaming Frog, Data Studio for reportsAbout $120 to $155 plus your time
Small agency, 10 clientsSE Ranking Core + Agency Pack, Screaming FrogAbout $195 billed annually
Growing agency, 25 clientsAhrefs Advanced or Semrush Advanced, AgencyAnalytics, Sitebulb ProAbout $1,100 to $1,250

How the rough figures work: the freelancer row is Moz at $99 or SE Ranking at $129 plus Screaming Frog at $279 a year (about $23 a month). The small-agency row is SE Ranking Core at $103.20 plus $69 billed annually, plus Screaming Frog. The growing-agency row is a suite that holds 25+ client sites (Ahrefs Advanced at $449 for 50 projects or Semrush Advanced at $549 for 40 websites) plus AgencyAnalytics at $25 x 25 clients ($625) plus Sitebulb Pro at $42, before extra seats and add-ons. Your mix will differ; rerun them.

How to choose

  1. Count clients and staff. Price each suite with your real seat count and project count, not one user and five projects.
  2. Trial two suites on the same three client sites and compare keyword and backlink coverage in your clients' niches.
  3. Decide whether clients log into anything. If yes, white-label depth matters more than the suite brand.
  4. Check the AI assistant list on each suite against the assistants your clients' buyers use.
  5. Keep one desktop crawler regardless; it is the cheapest line in the stack and the deepest audit.

FAQ

What is the best all-in-one SEO tool for a small agency?

As of October 2026, SE Ranking gives the most client projects at the entry price (10 projects on Core at $129 a month, $103.20 billed annually), with white-label available through the Agency Pack. Semrush and Ahrefs have deeper databases at higher seat costs. Trial both on your own clients' niches.

How much should an agency spend on SEO tools?

There is no fixed rule. Price the stack per client: suite, reporting and crawler divided by active clients. In the examples above that ranges from roughly $20 to $50 a client a month before seats and add-ons.

Which SEO tools have white-label reports?

SE Ranking (Agency Pack), Semrush (Pro Report), AgencyAnalytics and BrightLocal list white-label reporting on their own pages. Ahrefs' pages do not mention it, and Moz does not include branded reports on its Standard plan.

Do agencies need a separate AI visibility tool?

Not always. If the suite you own tracks the assistants your clients care about, start there. A separate tool earns its place when you need assistants the suite does not cover or want findings turned into fixes and new pages.

Put this to work on your own website.

Fenn finds what your customers ask, drafts the articles and site fixes, and measures what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok say about you — with every change waiting for your approval.
