7 Best Content Brief Tools in 2026
A content brief tool reads the pages that already rank for a keyword and turns them into an outline: headings, questions to answer, terms to cover and a target length. As of October 2026: Thruuu is the cheapest per brief (5 credits, plans from $19 a month), Frase builds briefs from ranking pages, People Also Ask, forums and answer engines (from $39 a month billed yearly), Keyword Insights links briefs to its clustering (100 credits a brief, from $58), Zenbrief is brief-only for teams (from $195 a month for 30 briefs), and Semrush's Content Toolkit ($60 a month) adds briefs to a Semrush account.

Prices, limits and features below come from each vendor's own pricing, feature and help pages, checked on 12 October 2026, and are 'as of October 2026'. Briefs are priced in different units (credits, articles, briefs), so we convert where the vendor gives enough detail.
What a useful brief contains
- The search intent in one line, and the question the page must answer first.
- An outline built from what ranks, with the gaps competitors leave.
- Questions from People Also Ask, forums and AI answers.
- Terms and entities to cover, used as a checklist, not a quota.
- The facts only the client can supply: prices, guarantees, examples, names.
- Internal links to and from existing pages.

The tools, one by one
Thruuu: the cheapest brief
Thruuu analyses the search results for a keyword and builds a brief, with an AI brief assistant. A brief costs 5 credits; Starter is $19 a month for 75 credits (about 15 briefs), Pro $49 for 250 and Agency $99 for 700, or $13, $33 and $66 a month billed annually and paid upfront. Credits are shared with clustering (50 per 1,000 keywords) and do not expire while you subscribe. Higher plans add monitoring of AI Overviews and answers from ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity. Paid plans cover 196 countries and 151 languages; a free tier gives 10 one-time credits for US English. Best for: freelancers and small agencies writing many briefs. Limit: an AI writer is linked from its site, but we could not confirm its price.
Frase: briefs that include answer engines
Frase reads the ranking pages, People Also Ask, forums and answer engines and turns them into a structured brief, then scores drafts for search and AI readiness. Starter is $39 a month billed yearly or $49 monthly (10 articles and 50 AI prompts a month across ChatGPT and Google AI), Professional $103 or $129 (40 articles, 3 seats, adds Perplexity) and Scale $239 or $299 (100 articles, 5 seats, adds Claude and Gemini). Starter stops at its limits; Professional and Scale allow overage, such as $5 per extra article on Professional. It supports 70+ languages. 7-day trial without a card. Best for: teams that want briefs, drafts and AI answer tracking in one tool. Limit: Frase counts usage in articles, so check how briefs count against the limit in the trial.
Keyword Insights: from cluster to brief
Keyword Insights clusters keywords by search-result overlap (1 credit a keyword) and builds a brief from a cluster for 100 credits; its writing assistant costs 200 credits an article. Basic is $58 a month for 10,000 credits and one seat, Professional $99 for 20,000 credits and three seats, with 20% off annually and a $1 trial for 7 days. Briefs and writing support about 20 languages, fewer than its clustering. Best for: agencies that plan a whole topic before briefing pages. Limit: 100 credits a brief adds up if you also cluster large lists.
Zenbrief: briefs for teams
Zenbrief is built around briefs: Premium is $195 a month for 30 briefs and 5 users, Pro $295 for 50 briefs and 10 users. It also offers a semantic keyword clustering tool with a free tier for 5,000 English keywords per session. It supports English, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Best for: content teams with several writers and editors. Limit: the highest price per brief here.
Semrush Content Toolkit: briefs inside Semrush
The Content Toolkit is $60 a month with topic ideas, an SEO brief generator, AI writing and optimisation, unlimited standard articles and 5 SEO-boosted articles a month (10 more for $30 a month). 7-day trial. It is sold separately from Semrush's SEO plans. Best for: teams already using Semrush data. Limit: AI visibility tracking is in Semrush's other plans, not this toolkit.
SEO.ai: an AI writer with briefing
SEO.ai positions itself as an AI SEO agent and writer. Single Site is $149 a month and Multi Site $299 (up to 3 sites or languages), with 25% off annual payment and a 7-day trial; prices exclude VAT. It also offers a free topic cluster tool. Its pricing page does not break out brief limits. Best for: teams that want the brief and the draft written by the same tool. Limit: we could not confirm how many briefs a plan includes.
WriterZen: one-time licences
WriterZen sells one-time licences rather than subscriptions: Keyword Research for $135, All-In-One Basic for $270 and Advanced for $405, plus $9 a seat a month, with a 21-day money-back guarantee. All-In-One plans include AI writing with 50 or 100 articles a month. Best for: freelancers who prefer a single payment. Limit: brief-specific limits are not stated.
Briefs for AI answers
Most brief tools build the outline from pages that already rank. Assistants reward something slightly different: a direct answer in the first lines, specific facts, and claims they can quote. Add three lines to every brief: the one-sentence answer, the facts only the client can supply, and the questions buyers ask assistants about the topic.
Fenn starts from that end. It finds questions from the subreddits, YouTube channels and competitor blogs you choose and from gaps in what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok say about you, then drafts answer-first articles of 500 to 800 words that mark the facts only you can supply as '[add your own: ...]' instead of inventing them. Drafts wait in a review queue for approval, and you publish them yourself. It does not produce SERP-based briefs or term scores. Plans start at $29 a month, set up after a demo.
