8 Best AI Overview Trackers in 2026

By Fenn9 min readAEOToolsAI Overviews

Start with the free one: since 31 August 2026, Google Search Console's generative AI report shows every verified site how often its URLs appeared in AI Overviews and AI Mode, by page, country, device and date. It does not show queries, clicks, or competitors. For those you need a tracker. As of October 2026, Semrush flags AI Overviews in Position Tracking on every plan, SE Ranking has a dedicated AI Overviews tracker (from $129 a month), Ahrefs tracks them weekly in Rank Tracker and via Brand Radar, Advanced Web Ranking includes AI tracking from $139 a month, and Keyword.com prices it by credits from under $10 a month.

8 Best AI Overview Trackers

An AI Overview tracker answers three questions a ranking report cannot: does this keyword trigger an AI Overview, is our page one of the cited sources, and who is cited instead. Every product below was checked on the vendor's own pricing, feature and help pages on 4 October 2026, with prices as listed that day in US dollars before tax unless noted. Treat them as 'as of October 2026'; this category changes monthly.

Two kinds of AI Overview data

First-party data comes from Google: Search Console counts impressions of your own URLs inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. It is exact for your site and silent about everyone else. Third-party trackers run your keyword list through Google themselves, record whether an AI Overview appeared and which URLs it cited, and do the same for competitors. That is a sample, from the tracker's chosen location and device, on the day it checked. Use both: Search Console for the total, a tracker for the keyword-level and competitive picture.

The trackers, one by one

Google Search Console generative AI report (free)

Google announced the report on 3 June 2026 and says it reached all websites worldwide on 31 August 2026. It counts impressions only, for AI Overviews and AI Mode, with pages, countries, dates and devices as dimensions and a filter for text and multimodal results; Search Labs experiments are excluded and the usual 1,000-row limit applies. Google's pages list no clicks metric and no query dimension. Search Console itself is, in Google's words, a free service. Best for: the honest total for your own site. Limit: no queries, no competitors, nothing about what the answer said.

Semrush

Position Tracking marks AI Overviews as a SERP feature: filter by it to see which tracked keywords triggered one and whether your domain is a cited source. When your domain is cited, Semrush records it as a #1 ranking regardless of your organic position. Semrush's help center says tracking on Google including AI Overviews is available with any free or paid plan; prompts for ChatGPT Search and Google AI Mode need the AI Visibility Toolkit (from $99 a month per domain billed annually) or a Semrush One plan (from $199 a month). The SEO plan is $139 a month ($117.33 billed annually) with 500 keywords tracked daily, and there is a 7-day trial. Adobe completed its acquisition of Semrush in April 2026. Best for: teams already tracking keywords in Semrush. Limit: a cited domain shows as rank 1, so read the AI Overview filter rather than average position.

SE Ranking

A dedicated AI Overviews tracker reports whether an AI Overview appears, where your site ranks inside it, which domains and URLs are cited, day-by-day position changes and cached copies of the results page; a research view shows how often any site is cited or mentioned in AI Overviews. The AI Search Toolkit adds AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Core is $129 a month ($103.20 billed annually) with 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily; Growth is $279 ($223.20). The 14-day trial needs no card, and the tracker page offers five free keyword checks a day. Best for: the most AI Overview detail per dollar among the suites. Limit: SE Ranking's pricing page and help center describe the AI Search add-on's 200, 450 and 1,000 allowance differently (prompts versus checks), so confirm what you get.

Ahrefs

Rank Tracker covers 19 SERP features including AI Overviews and updates weekly on every plan (750 keywords on Lite at $129 a month, 2,000 on Standard at $249, 5,000 on Advanced at $449). Brand Radar, from $199 a month, adds search-query-based indexes for AI Overviews and AI Mode that show which keywords trigger an AI answer and whether your brand appears, counting mentions and citations separately. Ahrefs offers free AI Overview and AI Mode trackers with a limited preview and no signup. It lists no free trial and says it never runs discounts. Best for: competitive research on which brands AI Overviews favour across a market. Limit: Rank Tracker's weekly refresh is slow for day-to-day monitoring.

Advanced Web Ranking

Shows organic rankings and AI Overview citations in one report and also tracks AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini. Checks run on demand or on a daily, weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule. AWR says AI visibility tracking is included on every paid plan from Pro at $139 a month (7,000 keywords) and uses your existing keyword quota rather than a separate add-on; Agency is $279. Annual billing saves 10%, and there is a 7-day trial without a card. Best for: agencies that want AI tracking without a second subscription. Limit: AI checks draw on the same keyword quota as rank tracking.

AccuRanker

SERP Analysis tracks 45+ features and, per AccuRanker, shows how many of your keywords trigger an AI Overview, how many URLs contribute and whether yours is one of them, with daily updates; the Professional plan is $249 a month ($224 yearly) for 2,000 keywords. AccuLLM, a separate product from $229 a month (100 prompts), tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews and AI Mode for mentions, citations, sentiment and average rank. Its pricing page lists no free trial. Best for: high-volume daily rank tracking with an AI Overview layer. Limit: the LLM product is a second subscription.

Keyword.com

Its AI Overview tracker shows which of your URLs are cited, and its credit model covers AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot at 0.25 credits per prompt per update, with weekly, daily or monthly refresh. The AI-only plan starts at $9.80 a month for 20 credits ($7.83 billed annually), and the combined Google and AI plan at $33 a month for 1,000 keywords and 15 credits. The 14-day trial includes 100 keywords and 20 credits without a card. Best for: small sites and freelancers who want AI Overview citations at the lowest entry price. Limit: credits go quickly on daily refreshes across several engines.

AgencyAnalytics AI Tracker

An add-on in beta that checks whether a client's brand is mentioned or cited in ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini. Checks run weekly (four a month). One credit is one prompt on one platform in one location; packs of 250 credits are $25 a month ($20.83 billed annually), unused credits expire at month end, and it requires the core plan ($25 per client a month). A 14-day AI Tracker trial includes 250 credits. Best for: agencies that want AI Overview data inside white-labelled client reports. Limit: weekly cadence.

Also checked: Wincher marks AI Overviews as a SERP feature on its daily rank tracking (from $49 a month), and Nightwatch lists AI Overview and AI Mode among the AI platforms on every plan, priced in euros when we checked.

What none of these tell you

  • What the AI Overview actually said about you, unless the tool stores the answer text. Check before you buy.
  • Personalised results. Trackers query from a fixed location and device; your buyers do not.
  • Clicks. Search Console lists no click metric for the generative AI report, and trackers cannot see clicks at all.
  • Anything outside Google. ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Grok answers need separate tracking.

Fenn does not track AI Overviews or AI Mode. Google AI Overviews is a search results feature, and Fenn checks chat assistants instead: it asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok the questions a business's customers ask and shows how often each names the business and which sources they cite. Teams that need both use one of the trackers above, or Search Console's free report, for Google, and a separate check for the assistants.

How to choose

  1. Open Search Console's generative AI report first. If your AI Overview impressions are tiny, a paid tracker can wait.
  2. If you already pay for Semrush, SE Ranking, Ahrefs or AWR, switch on their AI Overview data before buying anything new.
  3. Need daily citation tracking for a few hundred keywords on a small budget: Keyword.com or SE Ranking.
  4. Need it inside branded client reports: AgencyAnalytics AI Tracker, or SE Ranking with its Agency Pack.
  5. Reconcile a month of tracker data against Search Console's page-level impressions before reporting either.

FAQ

How do I track AI Overviews for free?

Google Search Console's generative AI report shows impressions of your URLs in AI Overviews and AI Mode for any verified site, as of 31 August 2026. For keyword-level checks, Semrush's help center says tracking on Google and AI Overviews is available on any free or paid plan (the free plan has one demo project), SE Ranking gives five free checks a day on its tracker page, and Ahrefs offers a free AI Overviews tracker with a limited preview.

Does Google Search Console show AI Overview clicks?

Google's pages for the generative AI report list impressions only, broken down by page, country, date and device. They list no clicks metric and no query dimension. Google also says AI impressions remain in the overall Performance report, so do not add the two together.

What is the difference between an AI Overview mention and a citation?

A citation is your URL listed as a source for the AI Overview. A mention is your brand named in the answer text, linked or not. Search Console counts impressions of your cited URLs; Ahrefs Brand Radar, SE Ranking's research view and AgencyAnalytics report mentions and citations separately.

How often should I check AI Overviews?

Daily tracking catches volatility but costs more credits; weekly is enough to see a trend for most sites. Whatever you choose, compare like with like, because AI Overviews can appear on one check and not the next for the same keyword.

Put this to work on your own website.

Fenn finds what your customers ask, drafts the articles and site fixes, and measures what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok say about you — with every change waiting for your approval.
