Best AI SEO Agents in 2026: Who Publishes, Who Asks

By Fenn8 min readSEOAEOToolsAutomation

An AI SEO agent is software that decides on SEO or AI-search work and carries some of it out. As of October 2026 the useful split is who publishes. Agents that act on their own by default: Search Atlas OTTO (autopilot, with optional approval mode, from $79 a month billed annually), Relixir's Rex (autonomous, managed by Relixir) and Semrush's Google Business Profile agent. Agents built around review: Ahrefs Patches, seoClarity's ClarityAutomate rules, AirOps (human review and approvals listed) and Fenn, which prepares fixes and pages that a person approves and publishes. For Writesonic, Conductor and Siteimprove, their pages do not say, so ask.

Best AI SEO Agents: Who Publishes, Who Asks

Every agent below was checked on its vendor's own site on 4 October 2026. Prices are list prices in US dollars before tax, 'as of October 2026'. 'Agent' is a marketing word as much as a technical one, so this page sorts products by what they actually do, using each vendor's own description.

What makes something an AI SEO agent

Three things, in increasing order of risk: it finds work (audit issues, content gaps, missing AI-answer coverage), it prepares work (rewritten titles, schema, a new page draft), and it ships work (changes the live site, publishes content, posts to a Google Business Profile). Most products do the first two. The third is where approval controls matter, because an agent that publishes on its own can change a canonical, a redirect or a page claim at scale before anyone reads it.

Agents that act on their own by default

Search Atlas OTTO SEO

Search Atlas describes OTTO as the AI agent that executes full search strategies for SEO and AI search, deploying optimizations in real time: titles, schema, canonicals, links, meta tags, headings, alt text, content, link building and Google Business Profile work, using Google data, competitors and behaviour patterns. It deploys through a header pixel, Cloudflare DNS or CMS connectors. Search Atlas says OTTO runs on autopilot and deploys on its own, with an approval mode to review each change and rollback available. Starter is $99 a month ($79 billed annually); AI visibility tracking for ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode starts on Growth ($199), with Copilot and Perplexity on Pro ($399). Best for: teams that want hands-off execution. Limit: approval is opt-in.

Relixir Rex

Relixir calls Rex an autonomous GEO employee: it publishes GEO-optimised content, refreshes content across the CMS on 30 to 60 day cycles, runs backlink outreach and technical audits, on autopilot, with Relixir's team configuring and managing it. It names Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. Relixir's pricing page returned an error when we checked, so the price is unknown. Best for: companies that want the work outsourced to a managed agent. Limit: you are trusting someone else's agent with publishing.

Semrush GBP AI Agent

Part of Semrush Local ($30 a month per location on Base, $60 on Pro, billed annually). It writes and publishes Google Business Profile posts every seven days by default, replies to reviews within 24 hours and publishes a gallery photo every ten days. Each automation can be switched off, and a dashboard shows the last 100 actions and the next two weeks of planned posts. Best for: multi-location businesses that struggle to keep profiles active. Limit: review replies go out in your name, so read the first few weeks closely.

Agents built around review

Ahrefs Patches

Ahrefs' fix layer generates AI fixes for titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, redirects, indexing directives, alt text and internal links, and delivers them through a JavaScript snippet or a Cloudflare worker. You publish, unpublish or roll back each patch. It is part of the Project Boost Max add-on, $200 a month per project. The team behind Ahrefs also runs Letaido ($99 a month per workspace), a separate product for agents that build reports and automate workflows on a schedule; its page does not say whether those agents can change a website. Best for: Ahrefs users fixing audit issues.

seoClarity ArcAI and ClarityAutomate

seoClarity's current AI product is Clarity ArcAI, which includes custom AEO content agents that follow your brand standards and tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini, with DeepSeek, Claude, Copilot and Grok marked as new. Changes reach the site through ClarityAutomate, where implementation follows rules and conditions you define or a single click. ArcAI is quote-only; seoClarity's packages start at $2,500 a month. Best for: enterprise SEO teams.

AirOps

AirOps combines agents, data, brand governance and expertise to research, publish and refresh content, and its plan table lists human review and approvals. Plans are Solo (ChatGPT insights only), Pro (insights across 7+ answer engines, unlimited seats) and Enterprise (custom agent builds), priced by task volume rather than a published list price, with a 14-day trial. Best for: content teams building their own agent workflows. Limit: you need to model your task volume to know the price.

Agents whose publishing behaviour is not stated

Writesonic says its agent rewrites pages for GEO, adding FAQ blocks, comparison tables and self-contained passages, and also shows content and outreach agents and an Action Center that ranks fixes. Starter is $79 a month billed annually with ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews tracked for 50 prompts and limited agent runs; approval workflows are listed on Enterprise. Conductor offers a Content Agent and a Technical Agent ('insight to published content in under two minutes') and an AgentStack it describes as having governance built in; prices are not published. Siteimprove sells search, content and orchestration agents that track rankings, AI citations, share of voice and sentiment across Google, ChatGPT, Claude and AI Overviews, and produce publish-ready drafts; prices are on request. None of the three pages we read says whether its agents publish without a person approving. Ask before you connect a CMS.

Fenn

Fenn finds and prepares; people publish. It asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok the questions your customers ask, watches the subreddits, YouTube channels and competitor blogs you choose, and checks your site's main page for AI-search readiness. From that it prepares site fixes, each with the exact change and a ready-to-paste prompt for a developer or AI coding tool, and drafts answer-first pages that flag the facts only you can supply instead of inventing them. Everything waits in a review queue; owners and editors approve, a draft cannot be approved while facts are missing, and an activity log records who did what, including AI assistants connected over MCP, where apply and publish requests are queued for a person. Fenn does not change your site or publish for you; direct publishing is in testing. Plans start at $29 a month, set up after a demo.

Before you give an agent your site

  1. Find out whether approval is the default or a setting, and set it before the first run.
  2. List the changes that should never ship unreviewed: robots rules, redirects, canonicals, noindex, pricing and product claims.
  3. Confirm you can roll back a single change and see who approved it.
  4. Ask where changes live (source code, script layer, edge, CMS) and what happens to them if you cancel.
  5. Run the agent on one low-risk section for two weeks and read every change it makes.

FAQ

What is an AI SEO agent?

Software that uses AI models to find SEO or AI-search work, prepare it and, in some products, carry it out on your site or profiles. The products differ most in the last step: whether they publish on their own or wait for a person.

Which AI SEO agents need approval before publishing?

As of October 2026: Ahrefs Patches (you publish each patch), Alli AI (you click Approve), seoClarity ClarityAutomate (rules or one click) and Fenn (a person approves and publishes). Search Atlas OTTO publishes on its own unless you turn on approval mode.

Can an AI SEO agent get my brand into ChatGPT?

No agent controls what an assistant says. Agents can make your pages easier to retrieve and quote and fill gaps in what you publish, which improves the odds. Treat any guarantee as a red flag.

Are AI SEO agents safe for client sites?

Only with approval on and a rollback you have tested. Our approval checklist lists the changes that should always have a person in front of them.

Put this to work on your own website.

Fenn finds what your customers ask, drafts the articles and site fixes, and measures what ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok say about you — with every change waiting for your approval.
